“Heading the list of film directors in our time is David Nicol-sey, the young CEO of North Productions; a film making house located in Ghana, West Africa. He’s also a Creative and an Entrepreneur.

In October 2013, he took the world by storm when he produced his first music video for the renowned Ghanaian Hiplife artiste Dee Moneey’s ‘Finish Line’”.

“So we met up with the young talented award winning Director and we  decided to engage him in a short convo. We asked him a few questions”;

DDB:Hello David’

DAVID: ‘Hi there!’

DDB: ‘How are doing?’

DAVID: ‘The Lord is keeping me. Yourself?’

DDB: ‘I’m alright’.

DDB: So tell us; who is David Nicol-Sey?

David Nicol-sey is a Ghanaian; from the Central region, Takoradi to be exact. I’m the first of three kids. I love my mom’s Yam and Palava sauce. I graduated from Data Link University College in Tema as a Marketing Student but thanks to passion I am now a critically acclaimed award-winning Director of music videos, commercials and short films.

DDB: What’s so unique about your videos?

Well, my work features a rather unique cinematic style that I blend with an inherent ability to capture the essence of youth culture.

DDB: How long have you been in the industry and who have you worked with?

Actively, I have been in the industry for almost 10years. The passion actually hit me in 2008/2009 when I was working as a Creative Director at an Advertising agency initially I-CREATE now Creatures Agency.

I have directed for artists like Sarkodie, Stanley Enow, Ric Hassani, Edem and Dee Moneey, as well as for global brands including MTN, MTV and Guinness.

DDB: Amongst all the videos you’ve shot, which is your favorite?

I’ll say Dee Moneey – Finish Line ft. Sarkodie & J Town. Reason being, it was the first official major visual I wrote and directed for a main stream artist.

DDB: What type of music do you listen to?

I grew up listening to Dance and Steel and Pop music. Then in the late 90s, Hip-Hop became my favorite. It evolved into a special like for Garage Music in 2002/2003; I loved specifically Craig David’s style of music. But currently I spend time listening to RnB and any tune I can generally dance to.

DDB: What’s the best compliment you have received?

Errrrrrrrm! Not too sure about that, but I think my Grandma said I have a long head and that was the best compliment ever! LOL.

DDB: What’s been your happiest moment in life?

It’s always been on my birthday.  I believe there’s nothing better and happier than your birthday …LOL.

DDB: If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, who would you pick? And why?

Obviously. I’m waking up as me. There’s simply nothing better than waking up as yourself else I’m waking up as Donald Trump with crazy Abs… LOL.

DDB: Apart from shooting videos, is there any fun thing you love to do?

Yeah, I love traveling around and exploring new places, meeting people, getting familiar with other culture and trying new food. Eating is fun really …

DDB: It was a pleasure having you David

DAVID: The pleasure’s all mine.

DDB: Okay so there we have it, Ladies and Gentlemen.

North Production’s work for Innova DDB Ghana. Enjoy!!!
